About Gary Barrett

Raised in the middle class suburbs of Chicago and presently living in the middle class suburbs of a town of 362 people somewhere in “flyover country”, educated in a liberal world view at a Big Ten state university and a conservative world view at a private graduate school; having served the wealthy in America and the poorest of the poor in a third world country; Gary has learned that life can be a wonderful array of contrasts. But for all the satisfaction that life’s experiences may bring, he has found there is no greater joy than the simple and profound pleasure of having his three children around the dinner table to share the Holidays with him and his wife, Laurie.

For their most recent holiday celebration, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family on the beaches of Florida. He encountered a street vendor using a monkey to take money from tourists for picture postcards of the mini-primate. The author asked if they could “Shoot the Monkey” with a camera. This picture is the result.
